Biology is entering the post-genomic era. The availability
of complete genome sequences expands tremendously the kinds of
studies that can be done to understand the molecular and cell
biology, genetics, physiology, pathogenesis, evolution and ecology
of organisms. Research based on genomic approaches will be a key
to the future of academic biology, industrial biotechnology, agriculture,
and medicine. The vast majority of completed genome sequences
are from microorganisms. Thus, microbial genomics will lead the
way in the development of new genome-based technologies and approaches
to problems in the life sciences. This is already evident in the
current early stages of transcriptional profiling, proteomics
and comparative genomics.
The Program in Microbial Genomics and Genetics at Texas A&M
can prepare you for the future of microbiology and genomics. The
information on these pages is here to help you see how. If there
is anything you would like to know that you can't find here -
please contact us.
This program is funded through a grant from the Life Sciences Task Force at Texas A&M. Admission to Texas A&M University and any of its sponsored programs is open to qualified individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or educationally unrelated handicaps.
