Overview - Traditional Research Focus or Integration with Public Policy

Whether your long-term interest is in microbiology or in the post-genomic study of higher organisms, our training program is designed to prepare you for a productive career in the Life Sciences.

These web pages describe two Ph.D. programs with a research focus on Microbial Genetics and Genetics:

  • The PMGG program is a traditional research-oriented Ph.D. program that is oriented toward training students in cutting edge genomic approaches.
  • The MGPP program is a is an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program designed to train students in both traditional lab research and in public policy. The MGPP program is based on the idea that the post-genomic revolution in the Life Sciences means that we need both scientists who understand how public policy is made, and policy makers who understand the science they will be promoting and regulating.

This program is funded through a grant from the Life Sciences Task Force at Texas A&M. Admission to Texas A&M University and any of its sponsored programs is open to qualified individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or educationally unrelated handicaps.
